Simon is Lead Technologist for Space Applications and Strategic Advisor at the Satellite Applications Catapult. Simon has over 15 years’ experience in the Geospatial and Space sectors working with Welsh Government, UK Space Agency and Satellite Applications Catapult. He has designed and developed numerous national scale products using cutting edge geospatial solutions for customer driven applications in Government, Business and Academia across four continents. A “geographer from birth”, Simon is passionate about the potential of satellite / geospatial technology to meet global, national and regional challenges. Simon has a Master’s Degree in Earth Observation and Geographical Information Systems from Aberystwyth University and is a fellow of the Royal Geographic Society.
Alastair is Global Services Development Director at the Satellite Applications Catapult. He has over 20 years experience leading global business and IT projects built on a career started at Accenture. Alastair also co-founded a successful start-up business in Brazil and speaks Portuguese fluently. Most recently Alastair was head of project management at Cloudreach, a Cloud consultancy startup, now present in twenty locations globally. Alastair is passionate about transforming organisational performance through effective use of innovative technology. Alastair holds a BSc in Information Technology, Business Management and Language from the University of York.

Khairul Hafiz Sharkawi received his BSc in Geoinformatics, MSc in Geoinformatics and his PhD in Geoinformatics (3D GIS) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Khairul Hafiz is currently the Head of Research and Development Unit at Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), working on building Sarawak digital research and development capabilities to support and sustain the Sarawak Digital Economy Initiative. He is the author and co-author of over 20 scientific publications and member of the Organising Committee for several international conferences.
Robert is a highly qualified software consultant, subcontract manager and consortium project manager with 23 years experience in the Defence and Environmental sector, applying scientific and technical leadership skills to the development of operational Downwind Hazard Assessment and Prediction modelling and simulation applications. Robert is a founding member of Riskaware with 20 years as as a Company Director.
Tim is an experienced consultant with over 13 years’ involvement in the IT sector. Since joining Riskaware in 2015, Tim has specialized in the development of innovative software solutions for the UK defence and Environmental sector. His experience covers a range of technical domains including Oil-slick modelling, geographic information systems (GIS), CBRN hazard modelling and wound mapping. Tim’s interests include user interface design, web development, computational methods, data acquisition and hardware integration. Tim studied at the University of Lancaster where he gained a first-class honours MEng in Mechatronic Engineering.
Tim was most recently the technical lead and project manager for Riskaware’s effort in the EASOS (Earth and Sea Observation System) project, a UK Space Agency funded project which used space data to help the Malaysian government with a number of environmental issues, including pollution from oil spills.
Nicholas Cirillo is member of the founding team of THISS Technologies (www.thiss.net), and now serves as the Managing Director. He is an experienced innovator in the satellite communications field, having focused on the development of miniaturised VSAT (USAT) products and technologies. Nicholas has lead the design and deployment of large scale sat-coms networks based on low-cost THISS terminals, which have now connected thousands of vessels to the Internet for the first time.
